Preparing for Your Consultation

It is important to us at The Law Office of Robert Helland that your initial consultation is meaningful.  When we represent you in a case, we see it as a collaborative process, and the more information we have about you and the facts of your situation, the better we can assess your case.  Additionally, we are committed to adhering to the ethical rules that govern the practice of law in Washington. 

Family Law Consultations

If you are coming to our office to discuss a family law matter, several forms of information are helpful to us as we explore representing you in the case.  This includes:

• Specific information regarding the nature of the problem (e.g., whether it is a divorce or post-divorce matter and whether children are involved)
• Information pertaining to you and your spouse's assets and debts
• You and your spouse's employment information, including income (pay check stubs) and recent tax returns
• The names, birth dates and Social Security numbers of the parties, children and any significant other you or your spouse/partner may have
• If you believe domestic abuse or child abuse is involved in the case, any information or details pertaining to the abuse
• The names, birthdates, and Social Security numbers of any and all people that are significant to you or your spouse's lives

Personal Injury Consultations

If you are coming to our office to discuss a personal injury matter, it is important that you obtain and prepare as much information about the incident and anyone involved in the incident as possible.  This includes:

• Photographs and any other factual information you have about the accident scene and your injuries
• Contact information for anyone involved in the incident or any potential witnesses
• Insurance information for yourself and anyone involved in the incident
• Medical records in your possession pertaining to treatment you received after the accident
• The names and contact information of all other professionals who have treated you, including any chiropractor, massage therapist, counselor or physical therapist
• The accident report, if one was prepared and if you have a copy of it
• A brief medical history
